This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Leaders have taken robust action to address the significant safeguarding weaknesses evident at the time of the last inspection. They have worked closely with colleagues from the local authority to ensure that the culture, systems and processes in place to keep pupils safe are effective. Leaders have developed an ambitious curriculum, including for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders have improved the use of assessment across the school by introducing the ‘KES structured autonomy model’ to ensure a consistent approach to delivering the curriculum and assessing pupils’ progress. Although there is variation in the wider support available for pupils with SEND, the quality of this support is improving. Staff have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and conduct. Most pupils behave very well in lessons and at social times. This includes students in the sixth form. Most pupils say bullying is rare. Pupils who spoke to inspectors knew who to report any concerns to. Pupils also commented that, as a result of many of the improvements in school made following the previous inspection, they felt significantly more confident that staff would deal with issues swiftly. Pupils’ personal development is prioritised by leaders. Leaders encourage pupils, including sixth-form students, to develop independence and resilience, for example through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

"> My child is now in Y10. He has been happy and settled at this school from day 1. A few small brushes with bullying which were stamped out immediately by the school. He is perfectly accepted for the clothes he wears and for having long hair, and has friends from a diverse group. He will hopefully stay here for 6th Form before going to university. Very glad he was accepted here as he would have been miserable at his catchment school.

"> Whilst I have been critical of King Edward V11 School, at least they made an effort, and it is hoped that the conclusions will help the school move forward. However, the same can not be said of Ofsted, whose behaviour, in my opinion, has been obstructive and unhelpful throughout, which means that parents cannot always trust the Ofsted reports. Parents must therefore be skeptical about the claims of excellence of schools, and always ask for supporting evidence, or otherwise take those claims with a good pinch of salt.
